Statement from Congestion Pricing Now on the MTA’s Upcoming Public Hearings
August 24, 2022

(New York, NY) – Ahead of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s public hearings on Manhattan’s Central Business District congestion pricing tolling program, Congestion Pricing Now, a coalition of advocates, released the following statement:

“Congestion Pricing represents a significant investment in more reliable transit service (via buses, subways, and commuter rail), cleaner air, and safer, less congested streets. As expected, the environmental assessment showed that congestion pricing will improve regional air quality, dramatically reduce traffic, and provide the funds needed to expand and modernize the region’s public transit system. The Congestion Pricing Now coalition strongly supports implementing congestion pricing as quickly as possible and instituting – in advance of, or concurrent with, the new tolling system – whatever additional emissions-reducing measures are required to fully mitigate any air quality impacts that might occur in several select areas outside of the central business district tolling zone.”
